Just when we thought we could pop the champagne...

It appears our OWN Department of State has requested a meeting with the Guatemalan Congress to tell them to NOT push back the implementation date of Ortega & Hague to April 2008...to keep them at January 2008. What????

11/8 Guatadopt.com post

I WANT OFF THIS RIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EDITED TO ADD: Someone on the guatadopt bulletin board talked with a woman at the Department of State office. This is what she wrote...

"She informed me that DOS IS trying to protect American families in process and that they have "previewed" the potential grandfather clause and that we will all be fine. She said that it will add no more time to our cases if they are not completed by 1/1/2008. Her position is that our cases in process will all be fine but that Guat continues to say they are going to make changes and never do and that DOS just wants to protect current and future adoptive families by forcing the 1/1 date."

So I guess the effective date won't matter much as long as the grandfather clause is included. That's fine with me!!

My hubby just called the Department of children's affairs and was told not to worry. They told him that our cases would be grandfathered in. They also said that this John guy just wants the new cases starting on January 1st to start under the new Hague laws.

We just want our babies home, so it still sounds like that will happen. Okay, another breath. What a roller coaster ride!!

Sweet Jen,

I am getting dizzy on this ride myself. I like adventure as much as the next gal, but there is something comforting about being on steady ground!!

Keep hangin' in,
Melis :)
